1st ever Arnold Amatuer World Strongman Contest

The 2010 American Strongman Corporation season will start with a bang, beginning the new decade by participating in the largest multi-sport event in the United States; the Arnold Sports Festival. ASC will host the first ever Amateur Strongman World Championship on March 5th & 7th, 2010 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, OH. “We believe that this event will have more nations represented then any other strongman event in history,” said ASC president Dione Wessels, “We currently have 17 nations confirmed and are anticipating 3-5 more. We already have several ASC athletes competing in the Arnold Strongman Classic, and are certainly proud to be showcasing top American and International amateur and 105k professional athletes. These young men are the future of strongman and are the pros of the next generation.” Events that the athletes will be competing in include several different medleys, including the Iron Mind Sandbag Medley. The overall winner of the event will get a guaranteed invite to the Arnold Strongman Classic in 2011. An up to date athlete list can be seen at www.nastrongman.com or www.arnoldsportsfestival.com.

Also at the Arnold, ASC will have the “strongman” booth with several different feats of strengths where athletes can give some of the events a try, get ASC swag and prize packages.

The ASC calendar will feature three preliminary events for the America’s Strongest Man® US Nationals Qualifying Tour 2010. The first event will be in Orlando, FL on April 16th & 17th, 2010 as part of the Europa Show of Champions. The other two preliminary events will be held between May and July with dates and locations to be announced. “The three preliminary events will qualify ASC athletes to compete at the US National Championship in Hot Springs, AK on August 7th & 8th, 2010,” said ASC VP Mike Johnston. “All ASC athletes who participate in a preliminary event, and any and all former America’s Strongest Man® title holders, will be eligible for the show in Arkansas. We are announcing as many dates and locations as early possible to give our athletes time to prepare.” Unfortunately in the past 2 or 3 years, other international organizers have chosen the same dates as ASC events in the eleventh hour. This has forced American athletes to have to choose between one competition and another. “In this decade ASC wants to be way out in front of the pack. Hopefully this will lead to less overlapping of events and ultimately provide more opportunities for our ASC athletes to perform,” said Johnston.

ASC has recently signed an exclusive 5 year deal with the Mr. Olympia Contest. “America’s Strongest Man® will be held during the Olympia Weekend on September 24th & 25th, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV and will become an annual fixture there,” reported Ms. Wessels. “The top 12 athletes from the US Nationals in Arkansas will qualify for the 2010 ASM. The deal was based entirely on the success of last year’s inaugural Mr. Olympia Strongman event. We are very proud of this partnership and want to thank all of the American Strongman athletes who participated in 2009 and for putting on one terrific show.”

ASC will also host four Platinum Plus Pro-card events in 2010. The first two pro-card opportunities will be at the Arnold and Orlando shows in March and April, respectively. The third show will be in Hartford, CT on July 23rd & 24th, 2010 and the fourth show will be in Dallas, TX on August 13th & 14th, 2010. These shows will be part of the Europa Battle of Champions and the Europa Super Show. “We (ASC) are motivated to be the very best governing and sanctioning body for the sport of professional strongman in the world,” said Wessels, “We are dedicated to providing top notch competitions and multiple opportunities for our professional American Strongman athletes. We will continue to nurture and develop the up and coming amateurs through North American Strongman and will ensure a long and lasting organizational structure based on positive growth for the future of the sport of strongman.”
