The Arnold Sports Festival will be the site of the inaugural Amateur Strongman World Championship hosted by ASC and will feature representatives from 20 different nations. “This event will feature athletes from more countries then any other strongman contest in history,” reported ASC President Dione Wessels. ASC already holds claim to the largest field of competitors at a strongman contest during the 2007 North American Strongman (NAS) National Championships in Las Vegas where 147 athletes competed over two days.
Since it’s inception in 2004, ASC with sister organization NAS has lead the “global strongman” community by example with the amateur to pro strongman system that has produced top level athletes such as Derek Poundstone, Travis Ortmayer, Brian Shaw, Nick Best, Dave Ostlund, Kevin Nee, Van Hatfield and many, many more. “ASC has served in the role of global development partner as well as organizational advisor for many years,” said Wessels, “We are working very closely with international strongman organizations to bring the best amateur athletes from around the globe to this event as well as helping burgeoning strongman countries like Jamaica, Ireland and Dubai develop their own amateur to pro systems.” The ASC impact on the strongman community can be felt in the United States with moves like the trademark registration of America’s Strongest Man and the America’s Strongest Man Qualifying Tour. The ASC mission will continue to be the growth of the sport of Strongman in the United States and abroad.
